Cookie Policy
A transparent explanation of the cookies and local storage used on FatLoss Science, and how to control them.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website to store information about your visit. Local Storage is a similar browser-based mechanism that stores data persistently on your device. Both are used to enhance the functionality and experience of websites.
2. How We Use Cookies and Local Storage
FatLoss Science uses a minimal approach to cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or third-party behavioural tracking. Our use is limited to:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
fls_cookies_accepted |
Local Storage | Stores your cookie consent preference so the consent banner is not shown repeatedly | Until browser storage is cleared | Functional |
3. Third-Party Resources
Our website loads resources from external providers. These providers may set their own cookies or collect limited technical data. We have no control over these third-party cookies.
Google Fonts
We use Google Fonts to deliver our typography. Google may log your IP address when fonts are fetched from their servers. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
Phosphor Icons CDN
Icon assets are loaded from unpkg.com CDN. Unpkg may log request data for infrastructure purposes but does not use this for advertising or behavioural tracking.
Image CDNs (Unsplash, Pexels)
Some images on our platform are served directly from Unsplash or Pexels CDNs. These providers may log access requests. Neither provider uses these for advertising purposes in this context.
4. What We Do NOT Use
To be explicit, FatLoss Science does not use:
- Google Analytics or any web analytics service
- Facebook Pixel, Twitter Pixel, or any social media tracking
- Advertising networks (Google Ads, programmatic advertising, etc.)
- Retargeting or behavioural advertising cookies
- Cross-site tracking of any kind
- Session recording tools (e.g., Hotjar, FullStory)
5. Managing Cookies
Our Consent Banner
When you first visit FatLoss Science, a consent banner is shown. You may accept or decline. If you decline, no local storage entry is set for consent, and no additional cookies are applied. You can reset your preference by clearing your browser's local storage.
Browser Controls
You can manage cookies directly through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View and delete existing cookies and local storage data
- Block all cookies or specific cookies
- Set cookies to expire when you close the browser
- Browse in private/incognito mode to prevent persistent storage
Instructions vary by browser. Refer to your browser's help documentation:
Note: Blocking functional cookies may affect how our cookie preference banner behaves (it will reappear on subsequent visits).
6. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because we do not engage in behavioural tracking regardless of this signal, we do not specifically alter our behaviour in response to DNT — our default behaviour is already privacy-respecting.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if our use of cookies changes. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
